Colonic hydrotherapy has been around for many years in various forms and until relatively recently was used in hospitals in the UK. Many people have preconceived ideas about this form of therapy and do not realise that it is comfortable to receive and has so many health benefits that it’s definitely worth getting past all those apprehensions.

Colonic hydrotherapy is the gentlest, safest and most effective way of clearing out waste matter, gas, mucus and toxic substances which have become trapped in the Large Intestine (colon). Most people feel clean, revitalised, and have more mental clarity after a treatment.

The colon forms the last part of the digestive tract. It carries out a number of vital functions including the completion of the digestive processes, re-absorption of digestive juices and water, and much more, especially elimination! The colon protects us from infection and disease. It can vary from 3ft – 10ft long and seventy percent of the immune system lives in the gut! A healthy bowel will have complete elimination two to three times daily - most people in this society don’t even manage once a day!!

The treatment exercises and tones the bowel aiding the evacuation of waste during and after the treatment. Warm filtered water is passed into the rectum via a small tube in small amounts. The water is simultaneously released from the bowel through a second tube, in doing so old waste matter is encouraged to release itself from the bowel wall in a gentle non-invasive way. The water pressure is carefully controlled and is in fact lower than is normally generated during a bowel movement.

A first treatment session will take approximately 1½ hrs and includes a thorough medical consultation followed by an abdominal examination and then the treatment. The treatment time will be approximately 30-45 mins and will include abdominal massage to aid the elimination of waste and gas pockets. If necessary herbal preparations are also used.
